On Tuesday we are going to talk about a topic that Tyler from Red Rokk turned me onto, Edgerank. The interesting thing is Edgerank is a pretty controversial idea these days, because some people think it’s dead. So if it’s dead, why are we talking about it and what is it anyway?
Edgerank is what Facebook at one time called the algorithm that decides what appears in your Newsfeed. Kind of like Google with their Pandas, Hummingbirds and KitKats. Here it is as explained by Batman (srsly).
For a little more detail and a little less cosplay, check out this blog post about how to improve your position in your followers Newsfeeds.
This summer, however, there was a lot of gnashing of teeth and rending of garments about the “death” of Edgerank.
But, here is what #teamZuck said about the issue.
One of the interesting things for me, is that I first started hearing about all of this last year thanks to Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban.
Does he have a point? Here are a couple of opinions.
So for your blogs consider a couple of things:
- If your boss, or client said to you next month “We need to improve our performance on Facebook. What should we do?” What would you tell her?
- What is Mark Cuban complaining about? Does he have a point?
On Thursday, we’re going to talk to a friend of mine named Meghan Wulff who works at Amazon.com
She’s driving up from Seattle to spend the afternoon with us telling to talk to us about what life is like on #teamBezos.
I would like you to read this recent New Yorker article, which is somewhat critical of Amazon. (It’s kind of long.)
If you want to blog, great. But it will be optional of Thursday. I want you get all the way through the Google Analytics videos this week, the exam will be in a couple of weeks.
Have a great weekend!
